From 20 Hats to a Movement: The Story Behind MERCURY MERCURE
Share
East Oakland made us. Now we're giving it back.
There's a particular kind of pride that comes from East Oakland. It's not loud — it doesn't need to be. It's in the way a Box Chevy sits clean on a Sunday, old school gleaming like it was built yesterday. It's in the smell of a dozen different cuisines on the same block. It's in the legacy of the Black Panthers, who fed children before they fed themselves. It's in the engineers and coders who built Silicon Valley while their neighborhoods were being overlooked. East Oakland has always been a place where cultures collide and create something entirely new — and that collision is exactly what MERCURY MERCURE is built on.
It Started With 20 Hats
The brand didn't launch with a warehouse, a marketing budget, or a team of designers. It started with 20 hats and a belief that athletes from this community deserved a brand that looked and felt as premium as anything coming out of New York or Los Angeles — but rooted in something real. Something Bay Area. Something ours.
But before the brand, there was a kid from East Oakland — into fashion, into making music, and at one point, without a roof over his head. That experience never left. It shaped the way this brand sees the world, and more importantly, who it's built to serve.
Why We Give Back
East Oakland gave us everything. The culture, the grit, the inspiration. So when MERCURY MERCURE started generating revenue, the question was never if we'd give back — it was how.
A percentage of every sale goes directly to homeless teens in need. Not to a faceless fund. To young people navigating some of the hardest circumstances imaginable — the same circumstances the founder once lived. We're not a charity — we're a brand. But we believe a brand built on community has a responsibility to that community.
The Monarch Collection
The Monarch butterfly doesn't stay where it starts. It travels. It transforms. It shows up somewhere unexpected and makes people stop and look. That's the energy behind our Monarch Collection — premium streetwear designed for people who are going somewhere, built by people who know where they came from.
Car shows. Music. Fashion. Athletics. East Oakland has always been at the intersection of all of it. MERCURY MERCURE is just the brand that finally said it out loud.
We're Just Getting Started
